From a promise made inside a jail to a vision for an entire community, Do Hard Things is bringing people, nonprofits, and organizations together to create lasting opportunities.

Before You Give: Our Stewardship Commitments

Until our Board of Directors and the appropriate program specialists are in place, donations allocated to future programs, transitional housing, and campus development will be held in an interest-bearing account and will not be spent. The only exception is our current equestrian program: funds allocated to the equestrian program may be spent on its activities and needs. We want every donor to know exactly how we intend to safeguard their gift while we build the right leadership and plans.

Chabree smiling in a recent portrait
A PARTICIPANT’S STORY

A path forward, built one step at a time.

After jail, Chabree moved into sober living, found steady work, and made a home of her own through workforce housing. She is proud of her sobriety and brings her ranch roots to the equestrian program. She is now saving for a car, another goal she is working toward.

“Doing hard things means choosing to keep going, believing my past does not define my future, and reaching for the life I want.”

Her progress reflects her own hard work and the encouragement she received along the way. The planned Jail to Reentry program is still being developed.

Our Commitment to Responsible Giving

Your gift deserves more than a big dream. It deserves thoughtful protection, qualified leadership, and a clear, accountable path to impact.

Interest-Bearing Accounts

Donations allocated to future programs and development—including jail-to-reentry, transitional housing, and the campus—will be held in an interest-bearing account, without spending, until the Board of Directors and the appropriate program specialists are in place. Funds allocated to our current equestrian program are the sole exception and may be spent on equestrian activities and needs.

Leadership Before Spending

The Board of Directors and appropriate program specialists must be in place before funds allocated to future programs or campus development are spent. Until then, those funds will remain held in an interest-bearing account. Only funds allocated to the current equestrian program may be used for present-day activities.

The Best Specialists for Every Program

Each part of the jail-to-reentry pathway and every campus program will be planned and overseen by appropriately qualified professionals in their fields—from corrections, education, and recovery support to housing, construction, equestrian services, finance, and nonprofit operations.

Board Review & Voting

Future-program and development funds will not be spent before the Board of Directors and the appropriate specialists are in place. Once those leaders are established, we intend for major expenditures to be guided by budgets, oversight, and appropriate board review and voting.

Transparency & Donor Intent

We will distinguish current equestrian work from proposed programs and future campus construction, maintain accurate financial records, and provide clear reporting. Project-specific restrictions and gift terms will be documented and honored where accepted, consistent with applicable law.

Responsible Development

We intend to move forward as qualified leadership, feasibility work, land-use permissions, partnerships, and budgets are ready. Our goal is to build thoughtfully and with the right people in charge—not to rush major spending simply because donations have arrived.

Our commitment: only funds allocated to the current equestrian program may be spent before the Board of Directors and appropriate program specialists are in place. All other donations will be held in an interest-bearing account until then. If you wish to restrict a gift to a specific project, please contact the Foundation to confirm its designation and terms before donating.

BIG DREAMS. BIGGER PLANS. REALLY BIG BUDGETS.

We've got the vision, the passion, and enough big ideas to make an accountant nervous.

Are we aware this is an enormous undertaking? Absolutely. Have we seen what it's going to cost? Let's just say our calculators are getting a workout.

But we're not interested in doing things halfway. Our vision is to bring together the best of the best—experienced leaders, specialists, community partners, and people who've already built extraordinary things.

Every part of this foundation, from jail-to-reentry and transitional housing to equestrian services and the Mall of Dreams, is intended to be guided by qualified professionals and accountable leadership.

We're not trying to reinvent the wheel. We're bringing together the people who already know how to make it turn. And yes, we're going to need a few million bricks. Fortunately, we know how to do hard things.

You Don't Have to Build the Whole Dream.

Just Help Build Your Part of It.

Every act of generosity moves us closer to a community where people help people succeed.
